This adapter was tested on several J1772 EV chargers. The maximum tested current was 24 A for five hours. The adapter stays cool and is easy to insert and remove from the Tesla charge port.
The adapter secured the J1772 plug on all the EV chargers it was tested on (see video). However on the Emporia EV charger, the adapter did not prevent an electrical disconnect when the disconnect switch on the J1772 plug was depressed while charging. Stated differently, the adapter continued to secure the J1772 plug, but could not stop an unwanted disconnect of the charge session.
The issue here is the variance in physical dimensions of the latch on the J1772 plug (yes, the plug, not this adapter!) across different manufacturers. Other adapters with locks get around this by using a ring with shims (of two different sizes) to ensure zero play in the switch of the J1772 plug.
Bottom line: While simple to use (no ring and small shims to use/keep track of), this is not guaranteed to prevent unwanted disconnects.
