j1772 Extention Cord

This is a terrific item when you are iced and can't reach the charger. Works terrific on Tesla Model 3 as it won't draw more then the cord can handle.

Extension cable works like a charm

The EVDANCE J1772 Extension Cable works like a charm. It finally allows me to charge my car out on the driveway since my portable charger has been just short of reaching outside. Definitely a great product to have on the go as well if you need to gain a little bit of extra length from an L1/L2 charger (up to 32A). Reminder that this won't work with DC fast chargers.

I Was Able to Extend My Reach By Another 21’ To Charge

Additional freedom to charge.
I have encountered vehicles either fully charged or not charging in spaces used to charge, and open spaces just out of reach. This cures that problem, beautifully. I simply connect the public charger to this J1772 extension, and my reach now extends another 21’. To avoid simple theft of this extension cable, I simply thread a lock through the hole of the trigger to lock the charging handle in place, also referred to as the J-Plug. So far, this has worked perfectly.

How this works?
It’s brilliant. I take the public or my own EV charger’s SAE J1772 plug (J-Plug), and instead of plugging the chargers J-Plug into my EV, I plug the charger’s J-Plug into this EVDance 40A rated 21’ EV Charger Extension Cord’s SAE J1772 inlet, which terminates, on the other end, with EVDance’s SAE J1772 plug (J-Plug), which I then connect to my EV. I have now extended my reach from the charger’s typical 25’ cable to about 46’. That’s significant.

Smart or dumb charger?
It made no difference whether I was using a smart of dumb charger, the cable was recognized, and I was allowed to charge.

Is there risk?
Possibly, although the cable was UL listed, the J1772 J-Plug was not nor was the inlet. Usually, extension cords are frowned upon, for possible safety reasons.

Attention to detail
Yes, I think so, as it was obvious, this arrived surrounded by bubble wrap, even the entire length of cable was wrapped in plastic, allowing the integrity of the product to be pristine. Very much appreciated. Every detail was attended to make as a perfect as possible.

CE certification>
Yes, on the charging handle aka the J-Plug

What is a CE mark?
A CE marking indicates that a product has been assessed by the manufacturer and deemed to meet EU safety, health, and environmental protection requirements. True, CE is not recognized in the US, but this did not even have a visible CE marking, not even on the packaging.

UL listed?
Not on the charging handle (J-Plug) nor the receiving J-Plug receiving inlet, was there any patent reference to anything being UL listed. The cable was UL listed, however.

What UL tells me
A UL mark tells me the manufacturer is trying to tell the world they seek high standards and stand behind what they sell. The lack of such on the J-Plug and inlet is a negative for me.

A certification isn't a requirement to sell an electronic device in the US. But do I really want to trust a device that’s conducting high voltage and high amperage and where the manufacturer did not want a third-party to certify? Typically, certifications are boldly noted. Not here.

Was there any RoHS certification surrounding this extension cord.
None that I saw.

RoHS stands for?
Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment (RoHS), which are European Union rules restricting the use of hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment to protect the environment and public health. I wish this was certified as such. This lack of RoHS certification weakens this a bit.

Wiring
The 21’ charger extension cord has a medium thickness cable, there is reference to its AWG wiring gauge, 9 – 8 – 18 (I am still trying to figure out the reason for the three (3) reference, possibly the black, red, and green wiring? The wiring is not as thick, as compared to others. Thin wiring gets hotter faster and loses electricity through that heat. So, for instance, (100’) of 12-gauge wiring loses 77 watts of energy, just through heat loss. Here, the wiring is not referenced in standard wiring gauge. So, thicker, not thinner, is better. This being on the thin side was a tad bit of a negative surprise. However, the UL listing made me comfortable.

AWG means?
American Wire Gauge. The smaller the number, the bigger the wire is, so 8 AWG is thicker than 15 AWG.

Was there any STW reference on the cord?
No.

STW means?
On an extension cord, S is for service; T is the coating (thermoplastic/vinyl); W is weather approved. Here, I could see NO reference to STW, on EVDance’s charger extension cord. That’s a bit of a negative surprise.

My experience
This “is” a worthy candidate for me to use on any continuing basis. However, my requirements may not be the reader’s.

Features:
This is a charger extension cable that is listed as being rated (unknown by whom) at 40A. What that tells me is that this can be dialed-in to “draw” as much as 40A, so, I can plug my charger into a 50A circuit but make sure I only draw (80%), by code, which is up to 40A and not a fraction more. Looking at the wiring, it’s UL listed, consult an electrician to confirm. I only use this for 24A draws – on a 30A circuit.

Country of origin?
Made in China

Value
These are expensive, but I find value in this.

Bottom-Line
I really like this.

Safety
Oh, yes, always shut power off at the circuit when plugging this in or taking the plug out, for optimal safety.

Security
EVDance’s charger extension cord has a security feature to lock this onto my vehicle, on the...

Great product

This cable worked great such that I did not need to move or install a new 50 Amp service plug. Most of the L2 chargers only come with approx 20' of cable. This allowed me to double that.
