Introduction
Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the next-generation GLB, transforming the nameplate into a fully electric compact SUV designed to compete in one of the most crowded segments in the market. Positioned above mainstream rivals and replacing both the previous gasoline GLB and the EQB, the new model emphasizes efficiency, practicality and long-distance comfort. Built on the brand’s advanced MMA platform, the redesigned GLB arrives with a strong focus on maximizing range and energy efficiency.

Platform and Powertrain Highlights
The electric GLB sits on the 800-volt MMA architecture, engineered for reduced power losses and higher charging performance. A Silicon Carbide inverter, a two-speed rear transmission, and a disconnectable front drive unit contribute to substantial efficiency gains. The model also includes a next-generation heat pump that draws warmth from multiple sources to minimize energy consumption in cold weather.
At launch, two EV variants will be available, both equipped with an 85-kilowatt-hour usable battery pack. The GLB 250+ features rear-wheel drive and produces 268 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes estimates a 0–60 mph time of roughly 7.3 seconds.
Range is a standout metric: the GLB 250+ is rated for 336 to 392 miles on the WLTP cycle, with expected EPA figures in the 288–335-mile range.
Dual-Motor Performance and Efficiency
The more powerful GLB 350 4Matic adds a front permanent-magnet synchronous motor that provides all-wheel-drive capability when slip is detected. The front unit delivers 107 horsepower and has its own Silicon Carbide inverter. A disconnect system prevents unnecessary energy losses by disengaging the front axle during steady driving.
With both motors working together, the GLB 350 4Matic generates 349 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque, allowing a 0–60 mph sprint of 5.4 seconds. WLTP range is estimated between 323 and 381 miles. EPA numbers are expected to fall between 277 and 326 miles once certification is complete.
Charging Capabilities
As part of its efficiency-driven engineering, the electric GLB supports 320-kilowatt DC fast charging on 800-volt systems, adding up to 161 miles of WLTP-rated range in a short session. A standard DC-to-DC converter enables compatibility with 400-volt chargers as well, although speeds are lower.
Hybrid Option
For buyers who still prefer a combustion-assisted setup, Mercedes will offer a hybrid GLB powered by a 1.5-liter engine paired with a 1.3-kWh battery and an integrated electric motor. This configuration works with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Advanced Heating System
The GLB’s new heat pump system, derived from the Vision EQXX program, uses three heat sources—ambient air, the battery and the electric drive unit. Mercedes claims the cabin warms twice as fast while using half the energy compared with the previous EQB in sub-freezing temperatures. Heating begins automatically when occupants enter the vehicle, prioritizing the upper body and hands for rapid comfort.
Interior Space and Technology
A longer wheelbase, combined with the standard panoramic glass roof, creates improved headroom and legroom. Five seats are standard, with a seven-seat configuration available. Optional features include an electrochromic roof with adjustable opacity and 158 illuminated star patterns.
Inside, the GLB features the latest MB.OS infotainment system. The driver receives a 10.25-inch digital cluster, while a 14-inch central touchscreen handles most functions. Buyers can add an additional 14-inch passenger display to create the full “MBUX Superscreen.” The system incorporates ChatGPT-4o, Microsoft Bing Search and Google Maps data to deliver more detailed and personalized navigation responses.

Exterior Design and Market Arrival
The new GLB adopts a closed, illuminated grille with a lighted Mercedes star, high-performance LED headlights and a continuous LED light bar. Cargo space remains competitive, with a front trunk complementing the rear storage area.
Mercedes-Benz plans to bring the electric GLB to U.S. showrooms next year, with pricing to be announced closer to launch.
