BMW’s next-generation iX3 is off to a strong start—even before hitting the roads. Packed with new technology, a fresh design, and impressive range, the iX3 appears to have struck the right balance between performance and practicality.

Early Demand Surges in Germany

BMW’s all-electric SUV has quickly become one of the brand’s hottest models in Europe. Over 3,000 orders have already been placed in Germany within just six weeks of its debut—surpassing sales of the gasoline-powered X3 in the same period.

This unexpected demand has caught BMW by surprise. The company had already been cautious about production volumes, and now it faces the challenge of scaling up manufacturing to meet stronger-than-expected interest.

Production of the iX3 will take place at BMW’s new Debrecen plant in Hungary, which was purpose-built for the automaker’s Neue Klasse EV lineup. The facility has an annual capacity of 150,000 vehicles, and the first European deliveries are scheduled for spring 2026. U.S. deliveries are expected to follow later that summer.

Built for Efficiency and Range

At the heart of the new iX3 is BMW’s most advanced EV architecture yet. It debuts new-generation motors, electronics, and battery systems that significantly boost energy efficiency.

The launch version, the iX3 xDrive50, features a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup producing 463 horsepower and 475 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough to push the SUV from 0–62 mph in just 4.9 seconds.

But the real headline is the range: thanks to a 108-kWh battery pack, BMW claims a WLTP-rated range of 500 miles (805 km)—making it Europe’s longest-range EV in its class.

Design and Interior Impressions

The iX3’s exterior design takes a bold step forward from BMW’s previous EVs. It’s muscular yet minimal, with a clean aerodynamic profile that distinguishes it from the outgoing generation.

Inside, BMW introduces one of its most futuristic interiors to date. A wrap-around panoramic display spans the dashboard beneath the windshield, creating a truly immersive cockpit feel. The cabin materials feel more premium than in some recent BMWs, showcasing a renewed focus on craftsmanship.

Early test drives in Europe have also revealed how refined the iX3 feels on the road. Reviewers noted strong build quality, precise handling, and a well-balanced chassis tuned for both comfort and agility.

Driving Dynamics and Neue Klasse Performance

BMW has promised that all Neue Klasse models—including the iX3—will deliver the brand’s signature driving excitement. That claim seems to hold up.

Prototypes have been spotted undergoing spirited testing on Italy’s Gavia Pass, where drivers pushed the vehicles hard through mountain curves. According to witnesses, the iX3 handled with impressive stability and even allowed some controlled slides, hinting at a dynamic, rear-biased power delivery.

If production models retain this level of agility, BMW could have one of the best-handling electric SUVs on the market.

Pricing and Market Outlook

BMW hasn’t confirmed U.S. pricing yet, but early estimates suggest a starting price of around $60,000 (including tariffs). In Germany, pricing begins at €68,900 ($80,300) and can exceed €80,000 ($93,000) for fully loaded versions.

With its combination of range, performance, and premium appeal, the BMW iX3 is shaping up to be a serious contender in the luxury EV space—poised to challenge rivals like the Tesla Model Y, Mercedes EQE SUV, and Audi Q8 e-tron.
