Overview
The 2027 Kia EV5 has officially launched in Canada, entering the market as one of the country's most affordable electric SUVs. Available in eight trims and offering a mix of long-range capability, family-friendly features, and built-in compatibility with Tesla’s charging standard, the EV5 aims to stand out in a fast-growing segment.

Pricing and Lineup
Kia is offering the EV5 at a starting price of CAD50,685, positioning it below many competing electric crossovers. The model slots between the EV3 and EV9 in Kia’s lineup and will be imported from South Korea.
Later next year, Kia will introduce the EV5 Light, which will become Canada’s most affordable electric SUV, starting at CAD46,685.
All prices include fees and levies but exclude provincial and federal EV incentives.
Battery Options and Estimated Range
Initially, all Canadian-market EV5 models will use an 81.4-kWh battery pack, offering:
-
285 miles (460 km) of estimated range for front-wheel drive
-
257 miles (415 km) for dual-motor all-wheel drive
The upcoming EV5 Light will use a smaller 60.4-kWh pack with an estimated range of 208 miles (335 km).
Transport Canada has not yet issued official range ratings, so these numbers are manufacturer estimates.
Standard Features
All Canadian EV5 variants come well-equipped, including:
-
Automatic headlights and LED taillights
-
Tinted rear windows
-
Dual 12.3-inch displays with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
-
Heated front seats and dual-zone climate control
-
Rear air vents
-
Heat pump and PTC heater for winter efficiency
These features help the EV5 appeal to families seeking an EV without sacrificing convenience or comfort.
Charging and NACS Compatibility
Kia has confirmed that all Canadian EV5 units will include a factory-installed NACS (Tesla) charge port, a major advantage for drivers in both Canada and the U.S. This makes the EV5 one of the earliest non-Tesla models sold in Canada to adopt the standard.
-
A CCS adapter will be required to use existing CCS fast chargers.
-
While Kia has not published Canadian-market charging speeds, the European long-range EV5 supports up to 150 kW, enabling a 10–80% recharge in roughly 30 minutes.
V2L Capability and Platform Notes
Like other Hyundai Motor Group EVs, the EV5 supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), allowing owners to power tools, camping gear, or appliances through an external adapter. However, the EV5 uses a 400-volt system, unlike the 800-volt architecture found in the EV6 and EV9.
Even so, the platform maintains good efficiency and charging performance for the vehicle’s price class.

Competition and Market Outlook
Although already available in Asia and Europe, the EV5 faces strong competition in North America from models such as:
With its pricing, tech, and Tesla-compatible charging, the EV5 enters the market with meaningful advantages.
However, Kia does not plan to sell the EV5 in the United States, despite earlier suggestions it might. For now, the EV5 will remain a Canada-only offering in North America.
