More Range Across the Lineup

The refreshed 2026 BMW i4 arrives with meaningful upgrades in efficiency and performance, building on the success of BMW’s best-selling electric sedan. A major improvement comes from the use of silicon carbide (SiC) inverters, which are more efficient than traditional silicon semiconductors and reduce energy loss during power conversion.

As a result, the i4 eDrive40 now offers more than 300 miles of range, regardless of wheel size. With 18-inch wheels, the rear-wheel-drive variant reaches an estimated 333 miles per charge—15 miles more than before—while 19-inch wheels deliver about 307 miles, an increase of 12 miles.

The New i4 M60 Replaces the M50

The high-performance i4 M50 is being phased out in favor of the new i4 M60, which takes power and range to the next level. Equipped with dual electric motors producing a combined 593 horsepower—a 57 hp increase—the i4 M60 sprints from 0–60 mph in just 3.6 seconds.

Despite the added power, range improves slightly: up to 11 extra miles on 19-inch wheels and 5 miles more on 20-inch wheels. BMW’s continued refinement of motor and inverter efficiency makes the M60 one of the most well-balanced performance EVs in its class.

Charging And Powertrain Details

All i4 trims continue to use the 83.4 kWh battery pack with 200 kW DC fast charging capability. According to BMW, drivers can regain between 88 and 108 miles of range in just 10 minutes when plugged into a high-speed charger.

Power outputs remain the same for the non-M models:

  • i4 eDrive40: 335 horsepower, rear-wheel drive

  • i4 xDrive40: 396 horsepower, all-wheel drive

However, the 2026 i4 xDrive40 sees a slight dip in range compared to the 2025 model. The new estimates fall between 268 and 287 miles, down from the previous 282–307 miles range window.

Interior And Tech Updates

While most changes are under the hood, the 2026 i4 also introduces some minor equipment upgrades. Every i4 now includes a tire repair kit as standard, and the Drive Recorder feature joins the Parking Assistant Professional package.

Inside, drivers still benefit from BMW’s Curved Display with iDrive 8.5 software, offering improved responsiveness and streamlined menu navigation. Subtle trim and material updates further modernize the cabin’s premium feel.
