Kia is expanding its electric performance lineup by introducing GT versions of the EV3, EV4, and EV5, signaling a clearer push toward sportier driving experiences in its more affordable EV segments. While these new models stop short of the extreme performance seen in the EV6 GT, they represent a meaningful shift in how Kia positions its smaller electric vehicles.

A Move Beyond Comfort-First Electric Design

Until now, the EV3, EV4, and EV5 have only been available with single-motor, front-wheel-drive configurations, tuned primarily for comfort and efficiency. Driver engagement was not a core priority. The new GT variants change that approach by adding a second electric motor, delivering all-wheel drive and noticeably stronger acceleration.

Kia says the goal is not outright speed, but a more emotionally engaging drive. Compared to the standard versions, the GT models are designed to feel more responsive and confident, particularly during spirited driving.

Dedicated GT Hardware and Driving Features

The GT versions introduce a dedicated GT driving mode, along with electronically adjustable suspension. This is a significant departure from the soft, comfort-oriented suspension tuning found in the non-GT models. While Kia has not disclosed exact suspension specifications, the company confirms that stiffness and responsiveness have been increased.

Visually, the changes are subtle but intentional. The GT models receive unique exterior accents and GT badging to reflect their performance focus. Inside, Kia adds sport-oriented seats with increased bolstering, a three-spoke GT steering wheel, and digital performance cues.

One notable feature is the inclusion of artificial engine sounds and simulated gear shifts, designed to give drivers a more familiar performance-car feel in an otherwise silent electric vehicle.

Powertrain and Performance Figures

Both the EV3 GT and EV4 GT produce a combined 282 horsepower, using a 194-hp front motor paired with a 94-hp rear motor. The slightly larger EV5 GT receives a bump to 302 horsepower, thanks to a more powerful 208-hp front motor.

While earlier rumors suggested output closer to 400 horsepower, Kia has clearly chosen balance over excess. Even so, performance improves significantly compared to the standard models:

  • EV4 GT: 0–62 mph in 5.6 seconds

  • EV3 GT: 0–62 mph in 5.7 seconds

  • EV5 GT: 0–62 mph in 6.2 seconds

These figures place the GT models firmly in the “quick but usable” category rather than extreme performance territory.

Battery, Range, and Efficiency Trade-Offs

All three GT models use the same 81.4 kWh battery pack found in their non-GT counterparts. Official WLTP range figures for the GT variants have not yet been released, but reductions are expected due to the added motor, increased weight, and higher power output.

For reference, current maximum WLTP ranges for the standard models are:

  • EV3: up to 376 miles

  • EV4: up to 391 miles

  • EV5: up to 344 miles

Actual GT range figures will likely be lower, but Kia has not provided estimates.

Kia’s Positioning and Launch Timeline

According to Soohang Chang, President and CEO of Kia Europe, the new GT models are meant to prove that electrification does not have to sacrifice emotional appeal. Kia is positioning these vehicles as a bridge between everyday usability and driving excitement.

Production of the EV3 GT, EV4 GT, and EV5 GT is scheduled to begin in Q2 2026, with deliveries expected shortly thereafter. Kia has not confirmed pricing or whether smaller models, such as the EV2, will also receive GT treatment.
